Remember PlayStation Memory Cards? The SavePoint is basically one for your iPhone, Steam Deck, or Rog Ally | Amznusa.com

The halcyon days of scrabbling around trying to find the memory card you had your Gran Turismo on Final Fantasy VII save stored on may be consigned to history but those little rectangles of plastic that kept your gaming life on them are as much a part of our gaming legacy as the controllers and consoles we used to play the games on.

With onboard storage the need for memory cards vanished overnight โ€“ sure these days we have USB drives and the like but we donโ€™t use them to save games on really.

The SavePoint from Genki is a mix of the old and the new โ€“ it is basically a โ€œgaming SSDโ€ that reimagines the Memory Cards of yore โ€“ and with the sizes of SSDs available nowadays you can fit a lot of stuff on a 2TB option.

The cute thing is, it looks like a PS2 memory card but the clever thing is you can use it to store whole operating systems as well as games on your handheld. Windows for your Steam Deck? SteamOS on your ROG Ally? Sure, why not?

Okay so thereโ€™s a little clever marketing going on here, what we effectively have is an SSD that invokes nostalgia for a memory card but the Kickstarter for the SavePoint is very impressive and goes into a great amount of detail as to what this little unit can do and is good for.

The Savepoint comes in four cool-looking designs

Anybody who has used a handheld PC like a Steam Deck will eventually run out of storage space and if you want to dual-boot it with Windows then a MicroSD is far from the best option. This leaves partitioning your existing Storage Space, and if you havenโ€™t upgraded that it will impact the space for your games. Something like the SavePoint removes that problem instantly.

Ultimately the SavePoint is an SSD โ€“ it still connects with a cable and on the images on the Kickstarter this looks bigger than it needs to be, although there is a caveat saying it is not the final cable design.

If you donโ€™t need to use it for a PC handheld though the SavePoint is also Magsafe compatible so you can use it as extra storage for your iPhone โ€“ very handy if you are a videographer looking to shoot high quality footage.

You can back the SavePoint in several flavors from as low as $49.99 if you want to supply your own storage going up to $249.99 for the 2TB model with a 512GB and 1TB version in between.
