Prediction Market Platform Polymarket Confronts $170,000 Lawsuit Over Disputed Trump Statement Wager Daily Hodl Agent | amznusa.com

multi-million dollar settlement

The major prediction market platform Polymarket is facing a lawsuit from a participant who claims he was shortchanged on a substantial winning bet.

Bettor Jesús Manuel Gonzalez Hernandez has sued Polymarket for $170,000 in damages, claiming that he correctly predicted that President Donald Trump would say “Khamenei,” reports the New York Post.

Polymarket allows traders to buy and sell shares on outcomes of current events. As part of its recurring series “What will Trump say this week?”, participants placed yes-or-no bets on whether Trump would say the words “Khamenei” or “Ayatollah” during the week of March 15th.

Hernandez says he bought 170,000 “yes” shares for $300, and the payout for a winning bet would have been $170,000. Hernandez’s lawsuit alleges that Trump said “Khamenei” twice on board Air Force One during the week of March 15th. Lawyers for Gonzales say White House transcripts of the exchange and video of the president speaking serve as evidence to their client’s claim.

But Polymarket resolved the market against the bettor and pointed to a possible mispronunciation or reference to Ruhollah Khomeini, a prior Iranian leader who died decades earlier.

Legal arguments emphasize that the posted rules imposed no requirement for exact pronunciation and that the surrounding discussion aligned with active conflicts rather than historical figures.

The filing identifies the company and two top executives, CEO Shayne Coplan and CMO Matthew Modabber, as defendants in the case.

The platform has offered no public comment on the ongoing dispute.
