Friday’s surprise update for the Pixel line has brought more features than anticipated. We already detailed the new App Lock from Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3, so let’s now talk about all of the new colors and customization options you have on your Pixel phone running this new software.
Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3 brings a bunch of changes to the color situation within the “Wallpaper & style” settings area. We now have the option to choose from a color slider to fully dial in your favorite color for the system theme, plus you can choose from 4 styles for each color.
To access this update color area, you’ll long-press on your home screen and then choose “Wallpaper & style.” Once there, you’ll tap the “Colors” option to be taken to this new and robust area.

Above, you’ll see that when you choose “Your wallpaper colors,” the system saves and lists that color on the far left side. That color will then be the star of your Material You color setup, but if you want, you can tap the color palette icon just above it to decide on the perfect color (this was previously leaked). Tapping that brings up a color slider that lets you fully fine-tune the color of your setup.
You can also tap the color swatch for on the Colors page to be taken to the new styles area that features Neutral, Soft, Bright, and Bold options. Below, we have a look at all 4 style choices, all of which really do dramatically change the style depending on your color.

Again, this is only a part of the new Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3 update that began rolling out on Friday to supported Pixel phones. You can enroll in the Android Beta Program and start using this software today, if you’d like. It won’t go stable and hit non-beta testers until December 2026.
