Somehow, it has been 20 years since Christopher Nolan’s The Prestige first came to theaters. The film starred Hugh Jackman as Robert Angier, a showman with a lot of charisma, and Christian Bale as illusionist Alfred Borden. And, of course, we cannot forget the late David Bowie as Nikola Tesla. To celebrate this milestone anniversary, Walt Disney Studios is bringing The Prestige back to theaters for a re-release, and it will be in 70mm and IMAX for the first time.
You can check out the above trailer for The Prestige anniversary release in theaters. “I’m very excited to bring The Prestige back to the big screen,” said Nolan in a press statement that we saw on Deadline. “and particularly thrilled to offer audiences the chance to see it on 70mm film, and on IMAX for the first time.”
It is kind of wild to think that Hugh Jackman had already been portraying Wolverine for six years prior to this film’s release and he was still playing him in recent years. And, this film was shortly after Bale’s first turn as Batman in Batman Begins. Heroes abound in this movie.
Here’s a synopsis for the film in case you aren’t familiar or need to refresh your memory:
“Robert Angier (Jackman), a charismatic showman, and Alfred Borden (Bale), a gifted illusionist, are two young, passionate magicians – friends and partners until one fateful night when their biggest trick goes terribly wrong. Now the bitterest of enemies, they will stop at nothing to learn each other’s secrets. As their rivalry escalates into a total obsession full of deceit and sabotage, they risk everything to become the greatest magician of all time. But nothing is as it seems, so watch closely.”
The Prestige will bring its 20th anniversary re-release to theaters on January 29.
