The 2024 crypto market has been great, with some cryptos even realizing gains of up to 23,079%. This report highlights the year’s high flyers regarding token performance, displaying how some tokens have risen.

The Year’s Top Performers
Virtuals Protocol (VIRTUAL) is at its highest, starting at $0.01311 at the start of the year. $VIRTUAL rose to $3.04 by the beginning of August because of the preparations for the high demand for the AI agents launchpad. VIRTUAL got a lot of attention in the AI and memecoin market. For context, a $100 investment at the beginning of the year would have turned into $23,079 by Christmas.
Next is Brett (BRETT) climbed 14,784% from its February launch price of $0.0009766 to $0.145. It was at $0.234 in early December; however, $BRETT is still among the few Base chain memecoin projects with a $1 billion market capitalization.
Third is Popcat (POPCAT), an emerging memecoin on the Solana blockchain with a whopping 10,459% increase in value. It got out to the public in March and has become the first cat meme coin to reach $1 billion in value.
A Memecoin Dominance
Seven of the year’s top ten gainers were memecoins, including Mog Coin, Turbo, and Fartcoin. These tokens benefited from the buzz around humor and innovation, proving that meme coins can still deliver stupendous profits.

Besides $BRETT and $POPCAT, $MOG grew by 6,051%, while $TURBO saw a 3,036% increase. #FARTCOIN and $AI16Z gained 2,890% and 1,410% respectively to date, while $PEPE rallied by 1,401%.

Bitcoin and Ethereum Performance
Bitcoin (BTC) also rose by 133.8% to nearly $99,000. Still, total returns of 53.4% in 2020 raised new questions about ETH dominance. Such incremental steps, over some time, helped establish it as the leading digital currency. However, other crypto market leaders have made investors at least ten times more returns than BTC and ETH.
Conclusion
Cryptos made 2024 stick in our minds with gains ranging from 1,401% to over 23,000%. Memecoins ruled the charts, but there were initiatives like Virtuals Protocol and classic performers such as Bitcoin for all kinds of investors.
