DC’s RED HOOD Comic Series Cancelled Following Writer’s Charlie Kirk Posts Tai Gooden | amznusa.com

DC is shelving its highly anticipated Red Hood comic series shortly after its first issue hit stands. The comic follows Jason Todd, a former Robin who has adopted the antihero persona of Red Hood. The Red Hood series’ sudden cancellation comes after several posts on Bluesky by its writer Gretchen Felker-Martin, who voiced her opinion about the recent shooting death of controversial conservative media figure Charlie Kirk.

Felker-Martin quoted a post about Kirk’s death, saying “Thoughts and prayers, you Nazi b**ch.” as well as a response to that quoted post of “Hope the bullet’s okay after touching Charlie Kirk. As a result of her posts, Bluesky suspended her account in accordance with the site’s guidelines.

“Glorifying violence or harm violates Bluesky’s Community Guidelines. We review reports and take action on content that celebrates harm against anyone. Violence has no place in healthy public discourse, and we’re committed to fostering healthy, open conversations,” the platform posted.

Gretchen Felker-Martin’s sentiments about Kirk are not surprising considering she is a trans woman and Kirk openly expressed his anti-trans stances. A DC spokesperson gave a statement directly to The Hollywood Reporter, saying “At DC Comics, we place the highest value on our creators and community and affirm the right to peaceful, individual expression of personal viewpoints. Posts or public comments that can be viewed as promoting hostility or violence are inconsistent with DC’s standards of conduct.”

Orders for future issues of the Red Hood series are now cancelled and retailers will get credit for invoiced copies of the series first issue, including copies that are already sold. The first issue hit stands on September 10, which was coincidentally the same day that Kirk’s shooting and subsequent death transpired in Utah.

A report by The Hollywood Reporter suggests that Felker-Martin’s statements are not the sole reason for Red Hood’s cancellation, but rather a final straw. The other unconfirmed circumstances that are possibly behind this decision are unclear at this time. And, as of now, there is no statement available from Felker-Martin nor her reps.
