Stranger Things 5 is almost here and fans are furiously heading to social media sites to chat with each other about what they think will happen? Who will die in this final season? What shocking truths will the show reveal? There are a lot of big Stranger Things 5 questions that need answers, but the theories certainly outnumber those inquiries. People get very, very passionate and often weird when it comes to twisting up thoughts about characters and narrative arcs. While we cannot find nor discuss every single Stranger Things 5 theory on the internet, here are a few of the wildest ones that we’ve seen recently.
The Real Will Is Still in Upside Down

This Stranger Things 5 theory is certainly something. The idea is that the Will we’ve been seeing for seasons is not actually Will at all but a clone created by Vecna. We know that there’s an unsettling link between Will and Vecna, but it seems that we would’ve gotten breadcrumbs about this before now. Will hasn’t really done anything that would suggest that he’s sabotaging the group’s efforts until this point. His character seems to be pretty consistent with who we’ve always been and his fear is palpable. And, a reveal like that would just cheapen all of the character development that we’ve seen for Will over the years.
Erica Will Defeat Vecna

More than one Facebook fan club and X (formerly Twitter) user think that last season gave us a big hint about who will be the ultimate hero in Stranger Things 5. In season four’s first episode, Dustin and Erica are the two who are there to defeat Vecna during the big campaign. Dustin rolls and loses but Erica rolls and wins. Does that possibly mean that Erica will ultimately defeat Vecna in the final season? It is not totally impossible. She may not have powers like Eleven, but Erica is not someone to trifle with.
Everyone Is in a Psychiatric Hospital… Or Playing a D&D Game

We have to say it. The psychiatric hospital idea is not a good theory at all for many, many reasons. First, suggesting that all of this is in all the minds of people who are dealing with mental health diagnoses feels quite gross. It is also not effective storytelling and would completely ruin what the show has built thus far. The theory that this is all just one big D&D game isn’t problematic like the first one, but it would still be a disappointing ending.
Eleven Will Defeat Vecna in Stranger Things 5 and Erase Everyone’s Memories of Her and the Upside Down

One Stranger Things 5 theory that is circulating is that Eleven will defeat Vecna and somehow reset everyone’s memories of what happened. Perhaps that is the only way that Vecna and the Upside Down can finally lose all its power. She does seem to have a level up in her powers and maybe this will include being able to mass erase memories.
It feels very Spider-Man: No Way Home, but not good at all. Eleven would lose everyone she loves essentially and have to watch them live from afar. One Redditor notes that the Duffers said they drew inspiration from Eternal Sunshine, which has an ending that’s similar.
Eleven and Will Are Twins Separated at Birth

This theory is quite interesting but also convoluted. Here’s what one Redditor had to say:
Okay, here goes… Terry Ives hooked up with Henry during her experience with Dr Brenner, who was aware and knew to follow her pregnancy once it was discovered. Mama didn’t know it but she was actually carrying twins — Jane and Will — but in her drugged up state during the c-section she only saw Jane crying. Brenner did a test on the newborns and decided only Jane had Powers so put Will up for adoption. He was adopted by Joyce to cover for her own miscarriage in her troubled marriage. So Jane and Will have been fraternal twins all along and Will has had subtle powers like the ability to hide, which is part of what compelled Henry/One/Vecna to find him. Will is going to discover his powers when Jonathan is killed in front of him in a self-sacrificial move. Will and Eleven will join hands and combo power strike to strip Vecna of his vines and remove his powers, leaving him weak and vulnerable. He ends up blind and in the same cell next to his father. Eleven starts training Will in telekinesis, leading to the spin-off.
Yes, please take a moment to absorb all of that. In a sense, the idea of Will having sleeper powers that will get active makes some sense. It could explain his continuous connection to the Upside Down/Mind Flayer and explain why Vecna chose to not kill him. But, we actually like the idea that the entire thing with Will wasn’t some premeditated thing by Vecna/Henry. Can he not just be a strange, nerdy kid with a propensity to connect to Upside Down things? This Stranger Things 5 theory makes some sense but it gets a little too chaotic at the end. Vecna must die. Period.
Of course, none of us should ever take theories too seriously. We are not in the mind of the Duffer Brothers and, well, if we all just hang on for a couple more months, then we will know exactly how Stranger Things 5 ends. Until then, people will continue to craft things that are stranger than fiction and we suppose we will read them for entertainment purposes only.
