Seven hundred smackaroonies is a lot to spend on a monitor, at least from my perspective. And my perspective is sitting in front of three monitors at my work setup, including an ultrawide OLED front and center. But this deal from Acer and B&H has me tempted. Today, you can get a 39-inch, oversized ultrawide OLED monitor for $699.99, a full $500 off the retail price.

The Acer Predator X39 monitor is basically a super-sized version of the X34, stretching out the panel even taller and wider, but keeping the 3440×1440 resolution. That might be a sticking point for some — monitors that go even bigger tend to up that resolution quite a bit, to 5120 pixels wide. But if you prefer a physically bigger picture/text or you want to keep your framerates manageable because you haven’t dropped four figures on a graphics card this year, it might make a lot more sense. At 240Hz and .01ms, you’ll still need a lot of gaming power to max out this monitor’s capabilities.

Other highlights on the spec list include a built-in KVM switch for managing multiple machines, an 800R curve (on the dramatic side — flat screen players need not apply), AMD FreeSync Premium Pro support, and a USB-C port with 90 watts of power delivery. That makes this monitor a good pairing for gaming laptops, which even a lot of OLED displays omit.

This is a new, not refurbished monitor, and it’s going for the same price as smaller, slower, less capable models from just a couple of years ago. It’s a good deal is what I’m saying here. That said, Black Friday sales are less than two weeks away, so it might make sense to wait if you’re not quite ready to buy.
