Following improvements to Windows 11 search, which rolled out last month, further updates that make the feature more intelligent and forgiving are now in the testing phase. According to Windows Latest, Microsoft is working on improving the system so it can recognize and correct spelling mistakes in search queries.
Even if you’ve missed a few letters, added extra characters, or haven’t typed the full name of an app or file, Windows search will still try to correct the result. Microsoft highlights this behavior with an example. Typing “utlook” (missing the first letter) is still enough for the system to correctly display Outlook. It’s worth noting that some coverage initially described the example as simply typing “outlook” to bring up the app. But the actual demonstration focuses on the typo-handling behavior instead.
These improvements are currently rolling out to Windows Insiders in the experimental beta version 26300.8687 of Windows 11. In addition to typo correction, the update also improves the ranking of search results, with more relevant apps and files now appearing at the top.
