XREAL, a company well established in building AR glasses, announced a new set of glasses today called AURA, made in partnership with Google, powered by the Android XR platform.
AURA is nifty. You wear the glasses which feature transparent lenses, then the Android XR interface/windows are projected onto your surroundings. This keeps you very much grounded in the real world, but capable of interacting seamlessly with Android XR. You can utilize desktop apps and even game if that’s your thing.

AURA is designed for comfort, weighing in at just 95 grams. This is made possible by no actual computing taking place within the glasses. You see, these are a wired device, requiring a Snapdragon Reality Elite platform-powered computing puck, which also carries the battery. So while they are extremely portable, they are not truly wireless, but this will make wearing them much more enjoyable.
The company details that you can open up to five apps at once (browser, work documents, music app, etc.) and arrange them to any size. Users can pair Bluetooth accessories (keyboard, mouse, etc.) or use the computing puck as a trackpad for a desktop setup anywhere.
These glasses also support Wired Mirroring. With this, simply plug the glasses into a USB-C port with video output and its screen will appear as a window that you can resize and place anywhere within the FOV.
XREAL AURA is available for pre-order starting now, with orders set to begin shipping mid-November. They are priced at $1,099 through the end of the year, at which point it appears the price will jump to $1,279.
