F.lux is a lightweight app that automatically adjusts your screen’s color temperature based on the time of day. During daylight hours, your display stays bright and cool. But as the sun goes down, it gradually shifts to warmer tones that are easier on your eyes and less disruptive to your sleep cycle. The idea is to mimic natural lighting, so your brain doesn’t think it’s high noon at midnight.

It’s a really elegant solution to the blue light issue. Personally, I’ve thought about buying those yellow-tinted gaming glasses you might’ve seen some streamers using a few years ago, but prescription versions are expensive. F.lux, on the other hand, is free.

The app is also completely hands-off after a quick initial setup—just enter your location and preferred lighting. It quietly does its thing in the background, transitioning your screen without bugging you. There are customization options too, so if the default warmth feels a bit too orange, you can tweak it to your liking.

It’s especially useful if you spend a lot of time reading, writing, or browsing at night. I’ve found it noticeably reduces eye strain during long sessions and, while it’s not a miracle cure for sleep habits, it definitely helps take the edge off late-night screen use.
