Fans of Disney’s streaming services will have to cough up a bit more money later this year as the company begins to prepare for another price increase.
The new price hike will affect Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ and will be rolled out from October onwards.
The company snuck the news in with a press release about its latest offering, continuous playlists that appear to actually be more like TV channels. This will be added for its core subscription on-demand members and will begin on September 4.
After explaining the upcoming feature, Disney says its “subscription plans remain among the best values in streaming today.
Beginning October 17, 2024, the new pricing for Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ ad-supported and ad-free plans in the U.S. will be as follows.
Disney+
With ads – $9.99 a month, up from the current $8 a month.
Ad-free – $15.99 a month or $159.99 annual. Up from the current $14 a month and $140 annual.
Hulu
With ads – $9.99 a month, up from the current $7.99 a month.
Ad-free – $18.99 a month, up from the current $17.99 a month.
ESPN+
With ads – $11.99 a month, up from the current $10.99 a month.
Bundle Offerings
Duo basic: Disney+ (with ads), Hulu (with ads) – $10.99 a month, up from $9.99 a month.
Duo premium: Disney+ (ad-free), Hulu (ad-free) – $19.99 a month which is the same as the current pricing.
While only a small increase on most offerings, the upcoming October inflation marks the fourth time the company has upped their streaming services pricing since it was first launched.
What are the continuous playlists?
“Playlists are the latest example of how we’re providing the best value and experience for our subscribers every time they open Disney+,” said Alisa Bowen, President, Disney+.
“Whether it’s news, kids’ content, popular genres, hit TV shows or blockbuster films, there will be something for everyone in a lean-back viewing experience based on seasonality and interest.”
The content on these will be refreshed monthly and will include seasonal content, ‘epic stories,’ throwbacks, and a real life category which should include a lineup of documentaries and biopics.
In addition to the playlists, and ahead of the US Presidential election that will take place in November, all Disney+ subscribers will have access to ABC News Live.
